  • Description

A beautifully restored DB2/4 is always a sight to behold and to find a car with only one previous owner is quite something, the sort of opportunity that is less likely to present it self the older these cars get. Having had the bodywork and paint dealt with by marque specialists Four Ashes Garage, it presents beautifully, with a deep shine and the panel gaps are all very good indeed.

Under the bonnet you have an engine rebuilt by the authority in DB2’s – Tim Stamper, thus it runs like a sewing machine and pulls very well, creating a beautiful exhaust note that simply can’t be replicated. The car, although restored has had the engine bay and interior kept original for posterities sake, which, personally I’m a huge fan of, it can still tell all of the stories from the years and road trips it has experienced, it also still smells “right” too!

The car is impressively original, down to the fact that it has its original jack, fire extinguisher, jack and tool kit, all of which are hard to come across. Again, another thumbs up for a low owners car…

When you turn the key, she starts easily and runs smoothly even from cold. Once up to temperature the car drives wonderfully, as a well-cared for and recently rebuilt car should, suspension, brakes and the original DB 4 speed H pattern gearbox is as smooth as silk and a delight for a car from the 50’s. It drives as well as it presents. You may note the smaller diameter steering wheel for ease of access and handling – should you so desire, the original will come with the car.

Another nod to the quality of the ownership this car has been in, even the rear hatch light (pictured), is intact, a vast majority of these have been removed or trimmed out over the years, a refreshing car being that it hasn’t been over-restored. The car has resided in Sussex all of its life and has been with its current keeper since 1978! You really don’t get cars like this very often, a real treat!

  • Technical specification

Aston Martin only built 565 Db2/4’s, therefore they are a rare sight on the roads still. However, we see quite a few in the workshop here at HPC Classics and this car drives so well, in fact that it is leagues ahead of the competition. Having only covered around 500 dry miles since its restoration, it is in brilliant order still. The engine was fully rebuilt by Tim Stamper, with a brand-new engine block as the original was found to have cracked. The original block is available with the car however.

The body, paintwork, engine, suspension, brakes and interior have all been restored, along with all of the brightwork restored too, hence its current and frankly jaw-dropping appearance today. We really like the fact the seats have been left unmolested, as they remain to tell the stories of the fun filled miles this car has covered.

The car has an almost full-service history, dating back to 1960, with old MOT documents, owners’ handbooks, workshop manuals, period road tests, original instruction booklet, technical diagrams and invoices and correspondence from both Aston martin and Castrol directly pertaining to which lubricants were best suited to the car in period.

We think you’ll have to try very hard to find a car that is as useable, reliable and presents as well for anywhere near this value, with perfect cars like this fetching easily over the £200k mark, this car presents fantastic and realistic value on the market. We are open to sensible offers on this car, so why not get in contact and see for yourself just how well it drives. The car is also supplied with a spare boot seal and a new reproduction of the boot lamp cover, both rare items that are no longer manufactured.

With DB4’, 5’s and 6’s being the “pinnacle” in sought after Astons and Vantages and X-Packs fetching such strong money, the DB2/4 is a classic Aston Martin that represents good value in the current market place, where else will you find lines like that again, especially with only one previous owner!
