1966 Morris Mini Traveller

When was the last time you saw a Mini Traveller? Especially one in one of the most sought-after colours of tartan red? How about one that’s been with its current owner for over 40 years!

 

The eagle eyed among you will have already spotted the 13” wheels, which cover some upgraded front stoppers, as the car was used daily as its current custodian’s first and only car until recently as it has only been replaced with a new Mini Traveller for daily duties as rear seatbelts were needed for the grandchildren. It really has been a part of the family for generations.

 

The car underwent a full restoration during 2009 – 2011 involving lots of new metal, paint, engine, wheels, brakes etc… so the car you have in front of you today is ready to roll and be enjoyed as it is, with the 13” wheels affording better ride quality and a slightly easier drive, plus with the larger brakes a more modern feel is given. Or the other option would be to get some original 10” wheels and make the car look more original and show ready.

 

The car starts with ease, idling happily and it drives so well thanks to all of the work carried out, the steering is super precise, the screen wash works nicely as it has been upgraded, along with the engine for a slightly later unit, meaning that you can happily cruise at motorway speeds whilst the frugal engine gently sips fuel. Economical classic motoring, ideal!

 

All of the panel gaps are spot on, the doors all close beautifully and the body is rust free. About the only thing we would recommend doing is having the bonnet re-sprayed (we can always arrange this prior to delivery / collection), as the paint has had a reaction with a substance dropped on it from the owner’s garage. Other than that, the rest of the car is fantastic, even the indicator light works on the stalk, just as it should! It really is the full package.

The car was fully restored 10 years ago and all bar the bonnet, looks and drives as well as you could ever expect. The originality is great all bar the wheels and even the smell is period correct! The strung door pulls, manual sliding windows etc… all still as they left the factory, which is just fabulous and only adds to the appeal of this lovingly owned and restored car.
