Description
A car is only original once, we’ve all heard that one before now. This is one of those such cars! Warts and all, this is a real survivor that has only had two owners in its 51-year history, it has been loved and cared for and more importantly used and enjoyed. The body has stories to tell with small changes from standard on the indicators and side lights, paint worn through in places where it has been polished off over the years and patina on the grille and interior that let you know that the car has been enjoyed!
With its raspy slant V4 engine providing a decent pull, having been rebuilt in its past by marque specialists Omicron, it is easy to see how these cars were very competitive in their day when pitched against the German and British cars of the era. It is super light, as evidenced in the razor-sharp steering feel, it turns in so quickly and never seems to run out of grip, especially now we have fitted new tyres and shock absorbers to the rear of the car. The cabin is snug and cossetting, but unlike a sports car of the time, it is buttery smooth and the ride quality is up there with the very best Rolls Royce had to offer all helped by the aluminium doors, bonnet and boot, which only the early cars had. With the boot hatch opening on an electric motor allowing for air flow and access to the rear end, it has the early spare wheel hatch and it also has the series 1.5’s quirky side opening bonnet too.
You’d be hard pushed to find a car with more charisma and character. Everyone comments on it when you’re out and about, it’s fun, feisty and seriously rare in its original optional flat black paint.
Technical specification
We have history dating back to it’s build in 1970, so all in all, a car that you’d be hard pushed to fault, so long as you’re not looking for a concourse restored car! If you can see past the paintwork and appreciate a car for its history and honesty, this could well be the ultimate car for you; Low owners, rarity, a Zagato body and fabulous history rarely come together at such a reasonable rate! That’s before we mention that it’s the star of the hit TV show Bangers and Cash (series 4 episode 8), it’s a celebrity to boot!
