Description
Prancing horse badge – check, quad tailpipes – check, – quad rear lamps – check, RHD – check, gated manual – check! Well, what more could you possibly want from a 1980’s Ferrari? Ex racing driver ownership maybe, much recent expenditure, well don’t worry, this car has it all! I honestly don’t believe you’ll find a better Mondial QV to drive out there. With an enormous history file, tonnes of recent work and TLC, this is an on the button spot on car that only wants to be taken out and enjoyed. It isn’t something you see very often, unless in re-sale red, as there were only 152 RHD cars made in total.
The car has lived with us here at HPC since it was purchased by its current owner last year, meaning that we know it very well and any little issue has been dealt with instantly, along with plenty of money spent to take this car to another level from where it was a year ago. The interior refreshed, paintwork rejuvenated, new tyres, big service, coils, plugs, leads etc… so the car runs like a sewing machine and drives just as well.
This exact car was owned for 20 years by John Pogson, the Ferrari race champion and the owner of Italia Autosport, the independent Ferrari specialists. John’s collection is highly renowned for its quality.
With an impeccable service history, and perfect MOT history (no advisories since before 2006) the car features in the film “Don’t Hate on the Mondial” on The Drive channel. I’d consider it essential viewing for any prospective buyer https://www.youtube.com/embed/WHkU1h_sKM4. This very car was also selected by David Lillywhite for the curated Ferrari display at the UK's first Petrolicious Drivers' Meeting, such was its condition then – since it has only improved! No sticky plastics or dials either, how refreshing!
Technical specification
This car doesn’t merely present incredibly well, it drives it and has the accompanying literature and ownership to back it up too, with a comprehensive history from 1997 in a lovely red folder, supplied with a second set of keys, full tool roll and kit with the car, it is the full package. Everything works – the AC is ice cold, all of the electrical opening buttons function exactly as intended, including the front and rear boot releases, bonnet, fuel filler and even the glove box is electric.
Having had £1,900.00 spent at Barkaway’s Ferrari late last year and a further £2,0000.00 with us, at the same point the car is in impeccable order. Upon delivery we were instructed to carry out a comprehensive check over, which culminated in a significant overhaul too, along with a full set of new tyres, so the car grips and rides brilliantly.
The eagle eyed may have spotted that the wheels are not original, these were changed by John Pogson, along with a few other small components to just improve its driveability and handling and the results are noticeable, without detracting from the car’s originality and looks, which is more than can be said for a lot of Mondials, which have had F355 wheels added!
The car was specified with the optional electric sunroof too, which is a lovely option to go with the AC. An ideal way to experience the sonorous noise of that V8 to create an even more immersive drive.
We believe you’ll find it difficult to fault the car, especially when you come and drive it, it really is on another level. A truly fabulous entry to classic Ferrari ownership and a solid, useable investment. What’s not to like!
