2006 Jaguar XK 4.2 V8

As far as good-looking British coupe’s go, there aren’t that many to choose from that have been produced in the last twenty years, especially not that compete with the likes of Aston Martin and Ian Callum’s beauties. Thankfully Jaguar employed Ian shortly after his legendary penning of the timeless and classy Vanquish era cars at Aston Martin. Hence the gorgeous lines and smooth masculinity of the X150 cars. It has class and style in abundance – the Jaguar staple of grace, space and pace still lives on.

 

Not only were the looks drastically improved from the X100 platform, but the technical side of the car was also brought into the 21st century too, with a rear axle and suspension design that is befitting of a car of its era, not one 5 decades prior. Impressive braking performance and that 4.2 litre V8 creating a heady growl and putting out enough power and torque to surge you towards the horizon at a serious rate of knots. The gearbox is another real improvement on the platform, no more changes handled by a sloth posting them by Royal Mail on strike, you have flappy paddles to take control with sharp and crisp shifts, or buttery smooth auto that is always in the right gear. A very well-suited combination with the toque of the 4.2L, you’re never flustered for an overtake, that’s for sure.

 

The suspension is sportier and the car corners flatter than the prior XK’s, but with no loss of compliance, in fact they are surprisingly even more comfortable. There is more space in the cabin, rear seats and also in the boot, thanks to the fabulously engineered hatch. Press that right hand pedal and release the big cat under the bonnet by opening the exhaust up & we’re sure you’ll be smitten with this big kitten!

To add to all of that, this car, spec means that you have every conceivable mod con you’d actually want now, let alone in 2006!
